Job summary

Barwon Health in Victoria is seeking a Patient Services Assistant to uphold high cleaning and hygiene standards across wards and patient areas, while supporting nursing and clinical staff. The PSA covers Cleaning & Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Transport & Couriering, Ward Support and Patient Support.

This permanent part-time role (32 hours per fortnight) is based on the Acute Neurosciences Unit and Baxter 6.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Health Services Assistant (or equivalent).
• Service-oriented with attention to method and detail.
• Good time management and reliability.
• Ability to read and write English; neat personal presentation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of environmental cleaning and infection control across wards, patient areas, and general spaces.
• Assist with patient mobility, lifting and transport within the hospital.
• Provide ward support: restocking supplies, linen, waste, and equipment checks.
• Assist with food and beverage service including meal delivery and pantry/refrigerator replenishment.
• Transport patients and clinical items between wards and departments.
• Contribute to safety and teamwork by following policies and participating in emergency responses.

About the role

The Patient Services Assistant (PSA) is responsible for ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained throughout all areas of the ward/ department, especially in patient areas. The PSA is an integral member of the hospital team, assisting and supporting the nursing and clinical staff, completing the five functions being Cleaning & Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Transport & Couriering, Ward Support and Patient Support.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards of environmental cleaning and housekeeping across wards, patient areas, and general hospital spaces, ensuring infection control and hygiene requirements are met.
• Support patient care by assisting with patient mobility, lifting, positioning, and transport within the hospital.
• Provide ward support services including restocking supplies, managing linen and waste, checking equipment (e.g. oxygen cylinders), and maintaining ward readiness.
• Assist with food and beverage services including meal delivery, food order checks, and replenishing pantry and refrigerator supplies.
• Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and clinical items safely between wards and departments.
• Contribute to a safe and collaborative environment by participating in emergency responses, following safety and information management policies, and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
