Women's Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ) is seeking a compassionate Counsellor for the 1800 4 WOMEN team in a fixed-term, part-time role through 31 December 2026. Counselling is conducted mainly by telephone with scheduled appointments and a caseload, offering continuity of care for up to six sessions.

The role requires trauma-informed, healing-centred and gender-responsive practice, with emphasis on culturally safe care, client records, supervision and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or postgraduate qualification in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology
• Experience providing therapeutic counselling services
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed, healing-centred and gender-responsive practice
• Experience supporting people experiencing complex life challenges
• Commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice
• Strong communication, assessment and relationship-building skills

Responsabilités

• Deliver trauma-informed, healing-centred counselling through scheduled appointments
• Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with an allocated caseload of participants
• Support participants experiencing mental health challenges, grief and loss, family and domestic violence, pregnancy loss and other life challenges
• Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
• Develop and review participant care plans
• Provide warm referrals and support participants to navigate other services
• Maintain accurate client records and case notes
• Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice and professional development
• Contribute to service improvement and best-practice delivery
