Job summary

Dee Why Orthodontics is seeking a Part-Time Orthodontic Assistant to join our friendly team in Dee Why, NSW. The role is 2 to 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and some Thursdays) with no weekends, offering flexible arrangements to support our growing practice.

You will assist orthodontists during treatments, prepare sterilised instruments, take radiographs under supervision, and help manage patient care and clinical documentation in a modern clinic.

Qualifications

• Dental assisting qualification preferred but not essential.
• Knowledge of orthodontic procedures preferred but not essential.
• Excellent communication, professionalism, and patient care.
• Willingness to undertake training and adapt to a fast-paced clinic.
• Ability to work flexibly within a part-time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assisting orthodontists during patient treatment procedures and examinations.
• Preparing and sterilising instruments and equipment to maintain clinical standards.
• Taking and processing intraoral and extraoral radiographs (X-rays) under supervision.
• Applying orthodontic materials including adhesives, brackets and bands.
• Providing chairside support and ensuring patient comfort during procedures.
• Recording patient treatment notes and maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
• Scheduling patient appointments and managing clinic calendars.
• Greeting patients, explaining procedures and answering general enquiries.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic clinical environment.
• Assisting with inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
• Supporting infection control protocols and health and safety regulations.

What we're looking for

• A qualification in dental assisting or equivalent relevant experience in a dental or orthodontic environment is preferred but not essential. We can provide on-the-job training for the right candidate.
• Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, terminology and materials preferred but not essential.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and team members
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high clinical and hygiene standards
• Ability to work flexibly within a part-time schedule
• A warm and friendly personality
• Current Working with Children Check (WWC) or willingness to obtain
• Willingness to undertake training as required
