Job summary

WALGA is seeking a Governance Advisor on a part-time basis (0.8 FTE) located at WALGA HQ West Leederville, on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. You will support Local Governments across Western Australia with governance, compliance and legislative guidance, developing resources and delivering training to members.

You’ll translate complex statutes into practical advice, build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders, and contribute to policy and advocacy work while

Qualifications

• Understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks and how they are applied in practice.
• Experience researching, interpreting and applying legislation, regulation or governance requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to turn complex information into practical advice.
• Ability to build relationships and work confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and a collaborative, member-focused approach.
• Ability and willingness to deliver training, workshops or presentations.
• Willing to travel occasionally to visit regional members; some out-of-hours work required.

Responsibilities

• Support WA's 139 Local Governments across governance, legislative and policy issues.
• Research legislation and help members navigate governance or compliance issues.
• Develop governance resources, guides and templates for members.
• Contribute to training, webinars and workshops for members.
• Provide practical governance advice and trusted relationships with stakeholders.
