Job summary

Parking Officer Georges River Council•Hurstville, NSW, AU

About the Role

Join a team that makes an important contribution to keeping our Georges River Local Government Area accessible and moving. In this hands-on, community-focused role, you will carry out professional, consistent, and impartial parking enforcement in accordance with NSW legislation and Council policies. Your work will support safe and compliant parking behaviour while helping to maximise parking availability and improve accessibility for residents, local businesses, and visitors throughout the area.

On a daily basis, you will undertake proactive patrols on foot and by vehicle, including targeted compliance activities such as school zone monitoring and heavy vehicle enforcement programs. Working alongside Senior Parking Officers, you will investigate and respond to customer requests, interact positively with members of the community, and ensure accurate and appropriate enforcement actions are taken. With a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and teamwork, you will participate in ongoing professional development, assess and manage risks in varied field environments, and assist with compliance proceedings, including the preparation of evidence and documentation for court when required.

Your Day-to-Day as a Parking Officer
  • Patrol assigned areas to proactively, and in response to requests, address community concerns through regulatory action
  • Monitor high-risk areas such as school zones and business areas to encourage compliance
  • Work closely with Senior Parking Officers and other Team members to provide consistent, community focussed services across all shifts
  • Put safety first by identifying and managing risks while working in dynamic, outdoor environments
  • Be a visible and approachable Council representative, educating the community and providing helpful advice
  • Demonstrate strong observational skills to deliver efficient patrols, prompt responses, and appropriate enforcement
  • Keep your knowledge up to date through ongoing training and development opportunities
What We Are Looking For
  • Demonstrated experience in customer‑facing or service‑oriented roles, with the ability to engage professionally and respectfully with diverse community members
  • Proficient digital literacy, including competency with Windows-based applications, mobile technology, and relevant field‑service software
  • Strong problem‑solving capability, supported by keen observational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to make effective decisions in dynamic situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate documentation and record clear, concise information
  • Well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution and de‑escalation skills, with the ability to manage challenging interactions calmly and professionally
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, field‑based environment with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team, follow reasonable instructions, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment
  • Current Class C Driver License
  • Physical capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role, including extended periods of outdoor work on foot in varying weather conditions

This role operates within a structured six‑day rotating roster (Monday to Saturday) in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award, requiring availability across core operational hours, including rostered shifts between 6:00am and 8:00pm on weekdays and 6:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays.
The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility and reliability in working across early mornings, evenings, and weekends, and be available to undertake overtime as required to meet operational and community needs. You will thrive in a structured shift environment, maintaining high levels of performance, professionalism, and responsiveness across varied working hours.
