Job summary

Northern Kitchens and Joinery in Warriewood NSW is seeking an experienced Painter to join our in-house painting team on a full-time basis. The role involves spray application of polyurethane and acid catalyst finishes to timber and panel products, plus hand-painting of doors and panels to achieve brush-stroke effects.

You will prepare surfaces, mix paints, maintain equipment, and occasionally travel to project sites for touch-ups.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent) is essential.
• Demonstrated experience with spray application techniques, including 2-pack/acid catalyst and polyurethane finishes.
• Experience hand-finishing timber joinery to a high standard.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small paint shop team.
• Willingness to travel to project/installation sites for touch-up work.

Responsibilities

• Spray application of polyurethane and acid catalyst (2-pack) finishes to timber, timber veneer and manufactured panel products.
• Hand brush-painting of doors and panels to achieve specific brush-stroke finishes.
• Application of clear polyurethane and varnish coatings to timber and timber veneer surfaces.
• Staining of timber and timber veneer prior to finishing.
• Surface preparation, masking and colour/finish matching prior to spraying or hand finishing.
• Mixing and preparing paints, stains, lacquers and catalysed finishes to specification.
• Maintaining and caring for spray equipment, booths and finishing tools.
• Attending client and project sites for touch-up work and on-site spray touch-ups.
• Working to quality and safety standards, including correct use of PPE and spray booth ventilation systems.

Northern Kitchens operates a dedicated in-house paint shop, fully equipped with an open-face spray booth and a fully enclosed spray booth, covering approximately two-thirds of one of our factory sites. Due to sustained workload — including work generated from external joinery businesses seeking painting services — we are seeking an experienced, qualified Painter to join our team on a full-time basis, working alongside our existing painter and paint shop support staff.

This is a genuine full-time position within a business that generates 40–50 hours of painting and finishing work per week, and there is scope for the role to grow as external painting work increases.

Key Duties

Spray application of polyurethane and acid catalyst (2-pack) finishes to timber, timber veneer and manufactured panel products

Hand brush-painting of doors and panels to achieve specific brush-stroke finishes

Application of clear polyurethane and varnish coatings to timber and timber veneer surfaces

Staining of timber and timber veneer prior to finishing

Surface preparation, masking and colour/finish matching prior to spraying or hand finishing

Mixing and preparing paints, stains, lacquers and catalysed finishes to specification

Maintaining and caring for spray equipment, booths and finishing tools

About You
