About the Role

Melbourne Painting and Decorating Solutions provides residential and commercial painting services across Melbourne. The business focuses on clean execution, consistent finishes, and reliable delivery across every stage of a project. The Painter is responsible for carrying out surface preparation, paint application, and finishing works across a range of sites. The role involves both interior and exterior work and requires a steady standard of workmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently across different job environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces by sanding, scraping, filling, and cleaning to ensure proper paint adhesion and finish quality.
  • Apply paints, varnishes, stains, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Complete interior painting across walls, ceilings, trims, doors, and detailed finishes with consistent coverage and clean lines.
  • Carry out exterior painting and asbestos removal using suitable coatings designed for durability and weather resistance.
  • Protect surrounding areas by masking and covering fixtures, flooring, and surfaces prior to painting.
  • Follow job specifications and colour selections to deliver finishes in line with client requirements.
  • Set up and use ladders and scaffolding safely to complete work at required heights.
  • Work across residential and commercial sites, including occupied spaces, with minimal disruption.
  • Check completed work to ensure it meets quality expectations before final handover.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Work with other team members to meet project timelines and site requirements.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including safe handling of paints and materials.
  • Experience and Knowledge with Asbestos management on worksite with WHS in focus. (Highly Preferred)
Skills and Attributes
  • Practical experience in painting and surface preparation.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to produce clean finishes.
  • Understanding of different paint types and application methods.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage time across multiple tasks.
  • Awareness of safety practices, particularly when working at heights.
  • Reliable and able to work as part of a team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) or
  • At least three years of relevant full-time work experience in painting and decorating may substitute for formal qualifications.
  • Candidates with significant industry experience are preferred.
  • Experience across both interior and exterior commercial and residential painting is expected.
  • Experience and Knowledge with Asbestos management on worksite (Highly Preferred)
Work Environment

Work is carried out across residential homes, renovation sites, and commercial premises throughout Melbourne. Projects vary from small-scale repainting to larger full-property jobs. The role requires specialized knowledge of asbestos removal and painting along with efficient moving between sites and working in different conditions while maintaining a consistent standard of work.
