Job summary

Safe Steps is Victoria's only 24/7 family violence response centre. We seek an Overnight Support Worker to join Residential Services on a part-time 0.4 FTE (Thu/Fri) in Melbourne.

You will provide practical and emotional support, conduct risk assessments, assist safety planning, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment during overnight shifts. Training and supervision are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in support, residential or community services.

Responsibilities

• Provide overnight support to adults and children in housing.
• Carry out risk management and needs assessments for new arrivals.
• Complete safety planning and support distressed clients.
• Assess family violence risk using MARAM framework.
• Manage handover items for continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate confidential records.
• Attend team meetings and supervision.

Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Overnight Support Worker to join our Residential Services team in a part-time 0.4 FTE position (Thursdays & Fridays)

Working overnight within our supported accommodation program, you will provide practical and emotional support to victim-survivors, conduct risk and needs assessments, support safety planning, and contribute to a safe and welcoming environment. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference during critical periods of crisis and transition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide overnight support to adult and child victim-survivors in supported accommodation
• Conduct initial risk management planning and needs assessments for new arrivals
• Complete safety planning and support clients experiencing distress or uncertainty.
• Assess and respond to family violence risk using the MARAM framework.
• Manage and action handover items to ensure continuity of care and service delivery.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records.
• Participate in team meetings, supervision and ongoing professional development.
