Job summary

Safe Steps is Victoria's 24/7 family violence response centre, offering crisis support and safe accommodation services. We are seeking a compassionate Overnight Support Worker to join our Residential Services team in a part-time 0.4 FTE role (Thursdays & Fridays).

In this overnight position, you will provide practical and emotional support to victim-survivors, conduct risk assessments and safety planning, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment within the supported accommodation setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a support, residential or community services role.
• Understanding of the specialist family violence sector in Victoria.
• Ability to work in a demanding environment with professional boundaries.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse communities.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
• High resilience and commitment to self-care practices.
• Commitment to trauma-informed, inclusive and culturally safe practice.
• Current or willingness to obtain: Working with Children Check, National Police Check, Level 2 First Aid, Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide overnight support to adult and child victim-survivors in supported accommodation.
• Conduct initial risk management planning and needs assessments for new arrivals.
• Complete safety planning and support clients in distress or uncertainty.
• Assess and respond to family violence risk using the MARAM framework.
• Manage and action handover items to ensure continuity of care and service delivery.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records.
• Participate in team meetings, supervision and ongoing professional development.
