Job summary

Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health in Ipswich and West Moreton seeks an Our Families Our Way Practitioner to deliver culturally safe, family-centred case management for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families involved in the Child Protection system. You will work under Delegated Authority to promote safety, permanency, and cultural identity.

About The Role:

The Our Families Our Way Practitioner plays a key role in delivering culturally safe and family-centred case management to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families involved in the Child Protection system under Delegated Authority arrangements. The position is responsible for supporting the safety, wellbeing, permanency, and cultural identity of children while ensuring decisions are made in their best interests and in accordance with legislative requirements.

Working from a strengths-based and culturally responsive framework, the Practitioner partners with children, families, carers, Elders, and support networks to develop and implement case plans that promote stability, strengthen family relationships, and maintain meaningful connections to family, community, culture, and Country.

Through advocacy, case coordination, and culturally informed practice, the Practitioner ensures Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are supported to have their voices heard, their rights upheld, and their cultural needs embedded within all aspects of planning and decision-making.

What you’ll bring:

Experience in child protection, case management, or related human services, with strong knowledge of culturally safe, trauma-informed and child-centred practice. You’ll have excellent communication, advocacy, relationship-building and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex cases, competing priorities and statutory requirements. A commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, along with relevant qualifications and required checks, is essential.

Valid Blue Card / Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain (mandatory)

Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Science or related discipline is highly desirable

Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain (mandatory)

Current First Aid and CPR Certificate or willingness to obtain (mandatory)

Current Driver’s Licence (mandatory)

Experience in child protection, statutory case management, out-of-home care, or related human services

Strong understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle

Demonstrated ability to manage cases, assess risk, develop case plans and coordinate services

Strong relationship-building, advocacy, communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills

Commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed, strengths-based and child-centred practice

Ability to manage competing priorities, statutory timeframes and confidential case documentation
