Job summary

Mater Private Hospital Mackay is seeking a dedicated Hospital Orderly to join our team on a permanent part-time basis, 32 hours per week. The role supports wards with a 7-day roster, including morning and afternoon shifts, assisting nurses and clinical staff in safe patient movement and equipment handling.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Safely lift, move, and transport patients using correct manual-handling techniques.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment following infection control standards.
• Handle, transport, and store equipment and medical gases per procedures.
• Provide basic patient care under nursing supervision and respond to emergencies.
• Manage waste disposal and clean contaminated equipment per policy.
• Assist clinical staff in sterile procedures and maintain sterile fields.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and follow leadership directions.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and accreditation processes.
• Undertake in-charge responsibilities when delegated and contribute ideas.

About the role

Mater Private Hospital Mackay is seeking applications for a permanent part time – 32 hours per week Orderly to join our team and support our wards. This role will operate on a 7 day a week roster, including morning and afternoon shifts.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospital Orderly to support the safe, efficient, and respectful movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital. In this important frontline role, you will assist nursing and clinical teams, maintain a clean and safe environment, and contribute to high‑quality patient care every day. As a key member of our support services team, you will follow best‑practice safety, infection control, and patient handling procedures while helping keep our hospital functioning smoothly and effectively.

• Safely lift, move, and transport patients using correct manual‑handling techniques and equipment.


• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment, following infection control and hospital cleaning standards.


• Handle, transport, and safely store equipment, furniture, and medical gases in line with hospital procedures.


• Provide basic patient care under nursing supervision and respond appropriately to emergencies, including giving basic first aid when required.


• Manage waste disposal and clean contaminated equipment according to policy.


• Assist clinical staff in speciality areas, including supporting sterile procedures and maintaining sterile fields.


• Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team and complete tasks assigned by the Team Leader or After Hours Nurse Manager.


• Participate in quality improvement activities, meetings, and accreditation processes.


• Undertake in‑charge responsibilities when delegated and contribute ideas that enhance patient care and service delivery.

About You

• Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly desirable
