Job summary

Mater Private Hospital Mackay is seeking applications for a permanent part time – 32 hours per week Orderly to join our team and support our wards. This role will operate on a 7 day a week roster, including morning and afternoon shifts.

You will safely lift and transport patients, maintain a clean and safe environment, assist clinical staff, and participate in quality improvement activities while upholding infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Understanding of infection control procedures and safe work practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Good organisational and time‑management skills.
• Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safely lift, move, and transport patients using correct manual‑handling techniques.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment with infection control standards.
• Handle, transport, and store equipment, furniture, and medical gases per procedures.
• Provide basic patient care under nursing supervision and respond to emergencies.
• Manage waste disposal and clean contaminated equipment according to policy.
• Assist staff in sterile procedures and maintain sterile fields.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and undertake tasks from leadership.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and accreditation processes.
• Undertake in‑charge responsibilities when delegated and contribute to service improvement.

About the role

• Safely lift, move, and transport patients using correct manual‑handling techniques and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment, following infection control and hospital cleaning standards.
• Handle, transport, and safely store equipment, furniture, and medical gases in line with hospital procedures.
• Provide basic patient care under nursing supervision and respond appropriately to emergencies, including giving basic first aid when required.
• Manage waste disposal and clean contaminated equipment according to policy.
• Assist clinical staff in speciality areas, including supporting sterile procedures and maintaining sterile fields.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team and complete tasks assigned by the Team Leader or After Hours Nurse Manager.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, meetings, and accreditation processes.
• Undertake in‑charge responsibilities when delegated and contribute ideas that enhance patient care and service delivery.

About You

• Good organisational and time‑management skills
• Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly desirable
