Job summary

Electro Optic Systems in Canberra seeks an experienced Opto-Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies, develop 3D CAD models, BOMs, and documentation while addressing vibration, thermal effects and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with Optical Engineers, perform FEA and thermal analyses, support testing and qualification, and provide engineering analyses and manufacturing support for production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace or equivalent).
• Postgraduate qualification in Optics, Photonics, Systems Engineering, or related field desirable.
• 5–10+ years' experience in mechanical or opto-mechanical engineering.
• Experience designing precision mechanical systems.
• Experience supporting complex product development programmes.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Product Design and Development: design opto-mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, housings, mounts, fixtures, and support structures.
• Optical System Integration: collaborate with Optical Engineers to integrate lenses, detectors, cameras, and laser systems into mechanical assemblies.
• Analysis and Simulation: perform structural, thermal, vibration, and finite element analysis (FEA).
• Prototyping, Testing and Validation: develop prototype builds, define test plans, and conduct verification and validation testing.
• Manufacturing and Sustainment Support: provide technical support to manufacturing and identify cost-reduction opportunities, support change requests and lifecycle activities.
