Job summary

Alcon is seeking an R&D Engineering Technician to support the development and prototyping of advanced optical imaging products. The role involves assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and improving precision optomechanical systems in the R&D phase and supporting their transition into production-ready subassemblies or manufacturing instrumentation.

Qualifications

3+ years hands-on experience with precision mechanical or optomechanical assembly.
Bachelor's or technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Basic CAD experience (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Fusion 360).
Knowledge of precision assembly, CNC-machined parts, 3D printing, bonding techniques, and metrology.
Strong practical troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

Assemble optical and optomechanical setups from schematics and drawings.
Integrate catalog components from suppliers (Thorlabs, Newport, Edmund Optics, Misumi).
Create tooling, fixtures, and brackets using 3D printing or prototyping.
Occasional manual rework of mechanical parts with hand tools.
Perform optical alignment and mechanical adjustments under guidance.
Troubleshoot assembly and tooling issues and suggest improvements.
Document assembly procedures and test results.
Support prototype builds and transition designs to manufacturing.
