Job summary

Nexus Hospitals in Bundaberg, QLD, is seeking a Perioperative Registered Nurse Scrub/Scout for Ophthalmology. Full-time or Part-time positions available, with a patient‑centred care approach and involvement across multiple surgical theatres.

You’ll monitor patient wellbeing, prep for safe surgery, supervise Enrolled Nurses, and support patients’ recovery with clear education and guidance. AHPRA registration is required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Perioperative Ophthalmology Scrub/Scout in a surgical hospital setting.
• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with patients, doctors, staff and other stakeholders.
• Solid time management, organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver evidence-based care: Monitor patient wellbeing and administer safe, high-quality treatment tailored to each stage of their hospital stay.
• Prepare for safe surgery: Ensure the facility, equipment and clinical environment are ready to support safe, efficient surgical care.
• Prioritise and monitor patient safety: Maintain clear team communication, assess patient progress, respond promptly to changes or complications, and keep patient safety central to all decisions.
• Support recovery at home: Provide clear education, guidance and reassurance so patients feel confident managing their recovery after discharge.
• Guide and support colleagues: Supervise and support Enrolled Nurses on shift, fostering confidence, teamwork and safe practice.
• Champion improvement: Promote continuous improvement, safety and excellence across all areas of the hospital.
