Job summary

Queensland Rail is seeking an Operations Reporting & Insights Analyst to analyse operational performance data for passenger services (Citytrain) and ensure accurate, actionable reporting for senior leaders and external partners.

You will lead the shift from spreadsheets to interactive Power BI dashboards, enabling data-driven operational decisions. This permanent full-time role is based in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, with hybrid work options and exposure to modern reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role.
  • High level knowledge of Power BI and MS Excel.
  • Experience with database systems and learning new systems quickly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent prioritisation skills.
  • Creativity in problem solving.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Degree or relevant qualifications desirable.
  • Experience with data management, analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Examine the prior day of operations, classifying each incident according to the hierarchy.
  • Verify train-day data completeness and correctness for reporting.
  • Extract data from core systems into custom databases for reporting.
  • Use data from multiple sources to generate Power BI and Excel reports.
  • Design and implement custom reports for internal/external audiences.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure correct incident classification.
  • Respond to ad-hoc information requests from media, ministerial offices, and senior management.

About the Role

As the Operations Reporting & Insights Analyst, you will be responsible for analysing operational performance data across Queensland Rail's passenger services('Citytrain'), ensuring the accuracy and integrity of critical reporting information used by senior leaders, government stakeholders and external partners.

You will play a key role in developing innovative reporting solutions and driving the transition from traditional spreadsheet-based reporting to interactive Power BI dashboards and visualisations.

This role offers the opportunity to influence operational decision-making through meaningful data analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine the prior day of operations, classifying each incident that occurred in accordance with an established classification hierarchy.
  • Examine the data captured for each train on the day of operations, ensuring the information is complete and correct in accordance with the minimum requirements of the systems being used for data capture, analysis, and reporting purposes.
  • Extract data from core systems to be input to custom databases used for data storage and reporting purposes.
  • Use data stored across multiple sources to generate agreed reporting requirements using Power BI and MS Excel in most instances.
  • Assist with the design of implementation of custom reports for internal and external audiences using appropriate data management tools including but not limited to Power BI and MS Excel.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure incidents are classified correctly.
  • Respond to ad-hoc information requests from media, ministerial offices, contractual partners and/or senior management
About You
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role. Ideally in the rail industry, front line service or customer service exposed role.
  • High level knowledge of Power BI and MS Excel and database systems with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent prioritisation skills.
  • Creativity in problem solving.
  • Ability to take initiative and be solutions focused.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable to change – no two days are the same.
  • Degree or relevant qualifications in related field desirable.
  • Experience with data management, analysis and reporting with a high level of attention to detail.

Desirable - experience in rail industry knowledge and relevant business, data analysis or mathematics related qualifications.
