Job summary

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking an Operations Assistant to join the Operating Theatre Team at John Hunter Hospital. This non-clinical role provides essential support to theatre staff and helps ensure the safe, efficient delivery of patient care in a busy hospital environment.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, be reliable, and willing to learn endoscope maintenance. Flexible on a 7-day rotating roster and on-call periods.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Operations Assistant, or willingness to learn the role.
• Training in maintenance/cleaning of endoscopes, or willingness to undertake this training.
• Ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated time management and prioritisation abilities.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control guidelines and policies.
• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to work a 7-day rotating roster and to be available on short notice.
• Willingness to participate in on-call periods.

About the role

As an Operations Assistant, you will work as a multi-skilled member of the Operating Theatre Team, providing essential non-clinical and ancillary support to theatre staff.

You will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care while ensuring the theatre campus and general hospital are supported according to facility needs.

The role may involve a diverse range of responsibilities and requires someone who can work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment while responding to changing priorities.

About You

We are looking for someone who is committed to teamwork, communicates effectively and can manage competing priorities.

You will be someone who is willing to learn, able to adapt to changing operational requirements and committed to supporting your colleagues and providing a high standard of service.

You will have:

• Previous experience as an Operations Assistant, or a willingness and capacity to learn the role.
• Training in the maintenance and cleaning of endoscopes, or a willingness to undertake this training.
• The ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
• Knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and control guidelines and policies.
• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Availability and willingness to work a 7-day rotating roster, including the capacity to work at short notice to cover unforeseen vacancies when required.
• Willingness to participate in on-call periods as required.

You don't need to have every skill from day one. We provide comprehensive one-on-one, on-the-floor training with experienced senior staff, along with corporate orientation and online learning. The most important qualities are your reliability, flexibility and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
