Job summary

Statewide Clinical Support Services (SCSS) is seeking an Operational Services Officer at SA Pathology in Adelaide. You will sort and accession specimens, enter data accurately and assist with storage and transport, ensuring high-quality and timely laboratory services.

Join a collaborative team across SA Pathology, responding to inquiries from internal and external customers with professionalism. This role reports to the WCH North Adelaide site within the SA Health system.

About the role

As an Operational Services Officer, you’ll play an important role in supporting the delivery of effective and efficient laboratory services at SA Pathology. Working under general direction, you’ll use your practical skills and knowledge to sort and accession specimens in accordance with established protocols, accurately enter data, and assist with the preparation, storage and transport of specimens. Your attention to detail, reliability and commitment to quality will help ensure specimens are managed safely and efficiently, supporting the broader laboratory team and contributing to the delivery of timely and high-quality services.

You’ll also be a valued point of contact for both internal and external customers, responding to enquiries about specimens, testing and results in a professional, helpful and respectful manner. The role provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with medical, scientific, technical, operational and administrative staff across SA Pathology, while also building positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders. With no direct reports, you’ll be part of a supportive team where your contribution matters and where your communication skills, initiative and commitment to excellent service will make a genuine difference.

About You

You’re a reliable, detail-focused and customer-oriented professional who can work confidently with limited supervision while contributing positively to a busy laboratory environment. You bring strong organisational and communication skills, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to stay calm and effective when working to deadlines.

  • Laboratory experience: Relevant experience in a pathology laboratory, with knowledge of laboratory operations and an understanding of the importance of accurate specimen and information handling.
  • Accuracy and organisation: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks, meet deadlines and consistently deliver high-quality work, including under pressure and within time constraints.
  • Teamwork and communication: A collaborative approach, with the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues and a diverse range of clients while providing a high standard of customer service.
  • Technology and problem-solving: Confident using computers, information systems and databases, with the initiative to identify issues, resolve problems where appropriate and elevate matters when required.
  • Familiarity with Millennium data entry system and medical terminology will be highly regarded.
