Job summary

Werner Engineering in Mackay, Queensland, is seeking an Operations Manager to lead our workshop, oversee machining, fabrication and CNC activities, and ensure safety, quality and on-time delivery. The role demands hands-on leadership and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a busy engineering and manufacturing environment.

You will drive day-to-day operations, mentor the team, foster strong customer relations and collaborate with management to grow the business and improve processes.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as a Machinist, Fitter & Turner or similar engineering trade.
  • Proven machining experience with strong CNC knowledge.
  • Sound understanding of fabrication and general engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Thorough understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to motivate others and continuously improve workshop performance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate workshop operations, scheduling and workflow to ensure jobs are delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Strong Communication and Management Skills
  • Apply machining expertise and CNC knowledge to troubleshoot production issues and support efficient manufacturing.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships while identifying opportunities to grow the business.
  • Provide practical solutions to workshop challenges and maintain efficient job flow.
  • Work closely with supervisors, estimators and management to achieve operational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor stock levels, equipment maintenance and purchasing requirements to support production.
  • Report directly to the Director and drive continuous improvement across workshop operations, quality and productivity.
  • Manage the growth and advancement of the company and its operations
