Job summary

SMEC seeks a Senior to Principal Designer, Roads & Highways (OpenRoads Lead) to join our team in Perth, Melbourne, or Adelaide and drive the national OpenRoads design capability on major transport projects across Australia.

You will provide technical leadership, guide design standards, workflows, and best practice while coordinating with PMs, engineers, and digital engineering leaders to deliver high-quality solutions across multi‑platform environments including 12d and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience delivering major transport projects with roads/highways focus.
• Expertise with design standards and governance frameworks.
• Ability to lead design development across concept to construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead OpenRoads design leadership across national projects.
• Drive adoption and optimisation of digital design platforms.
• Mentor designers and drafting teams to ensure technical excellence.
