Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced OpenRoads Highways Designer to join our Perth Transportation team. You will contribute to planning, design and delivery of major highway projects across Western Australia, applying MRWA standards and Bentley OpenRoads Designer expertise.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, drafters and clients to achieve high-quality design outcomes and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Formal engineering degree with road design focus.
  • Experience delivering MRWA projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop road and highway designs using Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
  • Prepare geometrical road models, alignments, corridors and cross-sections.
  • Produce design documents for concept to detailed design stages.
  • Apply MRWA standards and guidelines to project delivery.
  • Coordinate interfaces with drainage, structures and utilities.
  • Lead design reviews and quality assurance.
  • Mentor junior designers and support client presentations.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced OpenRoads Highways Designer to join our Perth Transportation team. This role will contribute to the planning, design and delivery of major highway, road and transport infrastructure projects across Western Australia. The successful candidate will possess strong technical capability in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and demonstrated experience working on projects delivered in accordance with Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) standards and requirements.

You will work within multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with project managers, engineers, drafters and clients to deliver high-quality design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop road and highway designs using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Prepare geometric road design models, alignments, corridors and cross-sections.
  • Produce design documentation, drawings and reports for concept, preliminary and detailed design stages.
  • Apply MRWA standards, policies and guidelines to project delivery.
  • Coordinate road design interfaces with drainage, structures, utilities, traffic and civil disciplines.
  • Undertake design reviews, design verification and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling and technical delivery.
  • Support tender submissions, proposals and client presentations where required.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders and approval authorities throughout project development.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to technical capability development within the team.
  • Required Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications
  • Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Design, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in road and highway design within a consulting or infrastructure environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects for Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA).
  • Strong understanding of:
  • MRWA Road Planning and Design Manual
  • Austroads Guides
  • Road Safety and Safe System principles
  • Design documentation and drafting standards
  • Experience preparing road geometric designs for urban and rural road projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience on major WA infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering and BIM workflows.
