Peabody is seeking an experienced Open Cut Examiner to lead day-to-day production at Wilpinjong Mine, 58 kilometres northeast of Mudgee, NSW. The role requires an OCE qualification and NSW practising certificate, with leadership experience in open-cut mining and a strong safety focus.

The position offers progression opportunities within a fast-paced mining environment, with exposure to truck/shovel operations, dozer push, and cast blast activities.

Responsibilities

• Fulfil statutory requirements for an Open Cut Examiner, including inspections and reporting.

• Plan and execute work using risk management tools to meet the mine plan.
• Coordinate shift personnel and equipment to achieve production targets.
• Present Pre-Start meetings with the production crew.
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and liaise with maintenance and support services.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced, motivated Open Cut Examiner to join our Wilpinjong Mine. Wilpinjong is an open-cut mine located 58 kilometres northeast of Mudgee, producing thermal coal for both export and domestic markets. We have a predominantly CAT fleet, with haul roads kept LV-free with dedicated LV roads.

Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, this role will lead all day-to-day production activities in compliance with all relevant statutes and be responsible for safe, effective production. This position suits an individual looking to progress their mining career. Duties will include:

• Ability to fulfil the statutory requirements for an Open Cut Examiner, including inspections and reporting;
• Comply with Wilpinjong policies and procedures;
• Set and demonstrate a proactive approach to health, safety and environmental standards and ensure a safe working environment is maintained;
• Demonstrate safe behaviours and provide visible safe leadership to team members;
• Ensure that risk management tools and relevant procedures are in place when planning and executing work;
• Effective utilisation of shift personnel and equipment resources to achieve the mine plan and production targets;
• Responsible for supervision of all contractors that are operating in mining areas;
• Ensure all personnel on site are trained and competent for the duties assigned;
• Identify training requirements within the crew and facilitate multi-skilled crews;
• Present structured Pre-Start meetings with your production crew;
• Be an active participant in the continuous improvement program;
• Liaise with Maintenance, Technical and other Support Services to deliver the mine plan and achieve production targets in accordance with production designs and schedules.

About you:

The successful candidate will hold an OCE qualification and a current NSW practising certificate. Leadership experience in an open-cut mining production environment is essential.

You will also need:

• Demonstrated experience supervising a large workforce to positive effect in an open-cut mining environment
• Valid NSW Driver's licence
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Strong commitment to safety as a way of life
