Job summary

ISP School Battle is seeking an One-to-One Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with progress and engagement, for a fixed-term, term-time role in Battle, East Sussex. The position involves mentoring, assisting with lessons, and reporting on pupil progress to ensure needs are met.

The role requires GCSEs (English/Maths) at C or above, experience with SEMH, and the ability to lead a specialist area. DBS check will be completed at cost to the employer.

Qualifications

  • Strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with GCSE English and Maths at C or above.
  • Previous experience in a similar Teaching Assistant role.
  • Experience working with SEMH pupils in an educational setting.
  • Ability to lead on a specialist area (e.g., reading, maths, forest school).

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support a pupil or small group (up to five).
  • Support the classroom teacher during lessons.
  • Report pupil progress and concerns to staff.
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time and on trips.
  • Assist with lesson planning and preparation.
  • Set work and mark where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships to drive learning outcomes.

About Us

ISP School is a special educational needs school that has been established in Kent for over 20 years. Renowned for working with vulnerable children aged 7 to 16 with a wide range of complex needs, our mission is to provide each pupil with a diverse and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline and engagement, inspires learning and encourages aspiration and achievement. We have expanded our special educational needs provision by opening a new school with capacity for 60 pupils in Battle, East Sussex. The school is located within a country estate, with visually stunning surroundings.

Role Responsibilities
  • Dedicated to mentoring and supporting one pupil, or a small group of no more than five pupils
  • Supporting the classroom teacher during lessons
  • Reporting on pupils progress and concerns, and liaising with other school staff to ensure pupils needs are met
  • Supervision of pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
  • Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation
  • Setting work where appropriate, and marking
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and driving interaction and positive learning outcomes
Requirements
  • Have a strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role, for example as a Teaching Assistant
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  • Be experienced and confident enough to be able to lead on a specialism, for example reading, mathematics or forest school
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which will be met by ISP School Battle.
