Job summary

University of New South Wales in Sydney is seeking a Senior Lecturer–Graduate Director for Our Future Oceans to lead the integrated researcher development program and support HDR and early career researchers.

The role involves coordinating across five partner universities, mentoring students, designing learning activities, and advancing professional development within a world-class Centre of Excellence. Start date February 2027; fixed-term 3 years; 35 hours per week.

Qualifications

• PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
• Proven commitment to staying up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring HDR students and early career researchers at scale.
• Proven leadership and ability to build collaborative partnerships within and external to the Centre.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement the Centre's inter-disciplinary Researcher Development Program in Oceanography across partner universities.
• Provide mentorship to students and early career researchers in the Centre of Excellence.
• Design and develop learning activities and resources for post-graduate students and early career researchers.
• Maintain and develop links within the discipline industry and profession for professional development.
• Attract quality research students by promoting research opportunities to prospective students and postdocs.
• Coordinate and run training and development opportunities including winter schools and workshops.
• Establish a research performance culture to support high PhD completion and employment outcomes.
• Develop strategies to recruit and retain students and researchers from under-represented groups.
• Collaborate with enrolling institutions to identify student internships and work-integrated learning opportunities.
• Identify and apply for additional funding benefiting the Centre and HDR/ECR cohorts.
