Gateway Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner with strong AOD clinical background to deliver specialised services in the Ovens Murray region. The role includes screening, assessments, treatment planning, prescribing, and referrals for individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges.

The position supports a small pharmacotherapy program, with supervision and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to improve population health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in AOD or a related field.
• Registration and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with AHPRA.
• A current MBS provider number and PBS prescriber number.
• MATOD training with RACGP and DoH authority to prescribe MATOD in Victoria.
• OTAC and MOH authority to prescribe OAT in NSW.
• SafeScript registration in VIC/NSW.
• Ability to prescribe agents used in drug dependence under law.
• Minimum three years’ experience in opioid pharmacotherapy, AOD, and nursing.

About the Role

This is a rewarding part-time temporary opportunity until May 2028 (60.8 hours per fortnight) based in Wodonga - serving Wodonga, Wangaratta, and surrounding LGAs. This role requires an advanced practice Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in AOD nursing and a commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

The Nurse Practitioner will play a pivotal role in providing specialised clinical services for individuals facing both substance use and mental health challenges. Your expertise will be essential in conducting AOD screening, assessments, treatment planning, prescribing, and referrals. Additionally, you will support families and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to enhance integrated care and build capacity within the AOD sector.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a small, pharmacotherapy program, supported by internal Gateway Health AOD Community Programs, Residential Treatment facility, and access to specialised supervision. You will take a leadership role in ensuring service targets are met effectively while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for patients and colleagues.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to practice at the top of your scope, contribute to meaningful change, and drive the success of the pharmacotherapy program enhancing community-based healthcare across the Ovens Murray Catchment Area.

This role is classified under the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) Single Interest Employers Enterprise Agreement 2024–2028 at Nurse Practitioner Year 1 or 2 level dependent on experience ($75.54 - $76.97 + superannuation)

You are a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) nursing and a commitment to delivering high-quality, clinically focused, person-centred care. With advanced clinical expertise and a passion for community-based healthcare, you thrive in multidisciplinary environments and are dedicated to improving outcomes for individuals facing both substance use and mental health challenges.

To thrive in this role, you'll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in AOD or a related field
• Registration and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with AHPRA
• A current MBS provider number and PBS prescriber number
• MATOD training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Department of Health authority to prescribe MATOD in Victoria
• NSW Opioid Treatment Accreditation Course (OTAC) and Ministry of Health authority to prescribe Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) in NSW
• Registration with SafeScript in Victoria and NSW (mandatory for MATOD prescribing)
• The ability to prescribe agents used in drug dependence under the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981 and Regulations 2017
• A minimum of three years’ experience in opioid pharmacotherapy, AOD, and nursing within a specialised context
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams
• A passion for integrated, community-based healthcare and a commitment to evidence-based practice
• Current Australian Driver’s License
