Job summary

Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardiac Inpatient Unit. The role involves autonomous advanced clinical care for children with complex cardiac conditions, new model of care development, and leadership in quality improvement.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver family-centred care, drive service development, and provide education to clinicians while maintaining ongoing professional development and competency.

Qualifications

  • Current Authority to practice as a Registered Nurse and endorsement to practice as a Nurse Practitioner through AHPRA or enrolled in an approved Nurse Practitioner Masters program.
  • Demonstrated advanced practice skills and currency of practice.
  • Ability to articulate sound clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions.
  • Excellent communication and engagement with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to professional development and clinical education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous and collaborative advanced clinical care for paediatric patients within the Cardiac Inpatient Unit.
  • Lead model of care development for children with complex cardiac conditions.

An exciting opportunity exists to join our growing Cardiac Inpatient Unit as a Nurse Practitioner. This newly established role offers the chance to shape and lead a contemporary model of care for children and young people with complex cardiac conditions within one of Australia's most comprehensive paediatric cardiac services. Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide advanced clinical care, influence service development, drive quality improvement, and contribute to excellence in patient and family-centred care.

Our service delivers the full spectrum of paediatric cardiac care, including congenital and acquired heart disease, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, heart failure, ventricular assist device (VAD) therapy, and heart transplantation. What you'll be doing

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role to deliver a child and family centred approach to healthcare within the nominated specialty service. The NP provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. The NP’s scope of practice (SCOP) is determined by the context of practice, is underpinned by policy and service requirements. The SCOP will be reviewed regularly in conjunction with the service director and/or manager or Nurse Manager as relevant to the service.

The NP role includes, but is not limited to comprehensive health assessment, initiation and interpretation of diagnostic investigations, diagnosis, prescription of pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents/therapies and discussion with/referral to medical specialists and other health professionals.

The NP will clinically manage patients requiring hospital admission or discharge, in the clinic or community setting or as relevant to the service.

The NP will emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.

The NP will draw on their professional competency and capability to improve clinical service outcomes through research and quality improvement activities.

The NP will provide education and support to other clinicians that facilitate the ongoing development of clinical practice.

The NP will maintain a standard level of education reflective of their competence.

The NP will challenge and broaden their education to meet service outcomes and higher competencies.

A Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) may be considered where no suitably qualified Nurse Practitioner has applied. The Transitional Nurse Practitioner will adhere to the primary purposes and standards of practice of a NP within the limitations and ScOP set out for the Transitional Nurse Practitioner.

Requirements
  • A resume (maximum 5 pages) outlining your experience.
  • Current Authority to practice as a Registered Nurse and with endorsement to practice as a Nurse Practitioner through the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority AHPRA or Currently Enrolled in an approved Nurse Practitioner Masters Nursing Degree working towards endorsement.
  • Evidence of existing advanced practice skills and currency of practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate sound reasoning behind clinical, diagnostic and prescribing decisions that are informed by evidence based practice and made within a nursing context.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated skills in the delivery of clinical education and support.
  • Evidence of quality and/or research activities.
  • Ability to contribute to clinical service planning relevant to scope.
