Job summary

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Nurse Manager Grade 1 at John Hunter Hospital to coordinate patient transfers and support timely bed access across the district.

In this permanent part-time role (24 hours per week), you will lead a small team in the Patient Flow Unit, provide clinical guidance, manage handovers and liaise with clinical teams to keep patient care moving.

Qualifications

• Clinical leadership or management postgraduate qualification required.
• Experience coordinating inter-hospital transfers.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to safe, timely patient transfers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate inter-hospital transfers for Priority Category 2–5 patients across the district.
• Act as central contact for referrals and transfers.
• Coordinate medical handovers and bed arrangements.
• Provide clinical advice to support safe transfers.
• Monitor transport arrangements and escalate access issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to support district-wide patient flow.
