Job summary

Sydney Imaging Specialists Pty Ltd in Darlinghurst NSW seeks a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join a radiologist-owned private imaging practice. The role covers full range of nuclear medicine procedures, including iodine-131 therapy, with a new Siemens Prospecta Q3, and opportunities to develop routine CT experience.

Qualifications

• Degree in Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Science (Nuclear Medicine).
• Current (or expected) AHPRA registration as a medical radiation practitioner.
• Current (or eligible for) NSW EPA radiation user licence covering nuclear medicine.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination and willingness to comply with St Vincent’s Health Australia policy for healthcare workers.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Perform the full range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures.
• Assist with iodine-131 therapy — patient preparation, administration and radiation safety.
• Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with safety protocols.
• Maintain and monitor hot lab documentation, isotope handling records and stock levels.
• Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and ALARA principles.
• Operate imaging equipment competently, perform daily QC checks and report equipment faults promptly.
• Provide excellent patient care with empathy and professionalism.
• Engage in quality assurance and quality improvement activities across imaging and radiation practices.
• Maintain infection control, confidentiality and WHS standards.
• Engage in continuing professional development, including routine CT training.

About the role

We are seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our department on a full-time basis. The role is scoped to your level of experience — new graduates are supported through a structured, supervised first year, while experienced technologists will find scope for independent practice, protocol development and mentoring of students.

You will perform the full range of nuclear medicine procedures, including iodine-131 therapy, and have the opportunity to build routine CT experience with the new Prospecta Q3. Shifts are rostered between 7:30am and 4:00pm, with no on-call requirement for Nuclear Medicine.

New equipment — a Siemens Prospecta Q3 arriving in January

In January we install a brand-new Siemens Prospecta Q3 SPECT/CT system, with full vendor applications training provided to the team. Whether you are starting out or bringing years of experience, it is a rare opportunity to be part of a department installation from day one — learning a new system alongside the whole team, and helping shape the protocols and workflows that come with it, rather than inheriting someone else’s.

What you’ll do

• Perform the full range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures.
• Assist with iodine-131 therapy — patient preparation, administration and radiation safety precautions.
• Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals — predominantly unit doses, with occasional kit preparation — in accordance with safety protocols.
• Maintain and monitor hot lab documentation, isotope handling records and stock levels.
• Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and ALARA principles.
• Operate imaging equipment competently, perform daily QC checks and report equipment faults promptly.
• Provide excellent patient care with empathy, professionalism and respect for patient dignity.
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities across imaging and radiation practices.
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control, confidentiality and work health and safety standards.
• Engage in continuous professional development, including routine CT training in diagnostic and interventional CT.

What you’ll bring

• Degree in Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Science (Nuclear Medicine).
• Current (or expected) AHPRA registration as a medical radiation practitioner.
• Current (or eligible for) a NSW EPA radiation user licence covering nuclear medicine practice.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination and willingness to comply with the St Vincent’s Health Australia immunisation policy for healthcare workers.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.

Highly regarded experience

• Experience with Siemens equipment
• IA16 licence endorsement for CT.
