Job summary

Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd is seeking a new graduate Speech Pathologist to deliver culturally appropriate services within a multidisciplinary team. You will conduct clinic-based appointments, school and home visits, and contribute to individual and group programs for children.

The role involves liaising with local kindergartens and schools, coordinating with health and education departments, and ensuring accurate record keeping in line with AGPAL standards.

Qualifications

• Current Criminal History Check.
• Current Working with Children’s Check (Qld Blue Card).
• Relevant degree in Speech Pathology.

Responsibilities

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The Regional and Specialist team includes Integrated Specialist Services, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Primary Healthcare Services, Birthing and Early Childhood Services (South), and Child and Youth Services. About the Role?

As a new graduate Speech Pathologist, your role is to provide direct culturally appropriate Speech Pathologist services as part of a multi- disciplinary team/program.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

• Provide clinical services to clients during hours of operation of the service, in keeping with accepted best practice standards. This will include clinic-based appointments and where appropriate school/home visits.
• Provide culturally responsive assessment and intervention for children including individual and group programs.
• Liaise with local kindergartens and schools regarding the services available and develop pathways and partnerships for referrals.
• Liaise with Queensland Health and Education Queensland regarding services available and referral pathways.
• Ensure information is recorded accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record system, and that records are maintained in accordance with AGPAL standards.

About You?

• Current Criminal History Check
• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
• Current Working with Children’s Check (Qld Blue Card)
• Current Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card)
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificates
• Speech Pathology membership
• Relevant degree in Speech Pathology

Desirable, but not mandatory:

• Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
• Experience in providing assessment, case management and speech pathology services to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
