Job summary

Downer Professional Services in Canberra is seeking a Network Specialist to design and implement a secure ICT system for Defence projects. You will deliver artefacts and documentation that support accreditation, risk management, and secure operations within the Defence environment.

The role requires hands-on experience with A&A processes, RHEL, and network security, with a proactive, collaborative mindset and the ability to liaise with Defence stakeholders to ensure robust, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering A&A artefacts for ICT systems in Defence.
• Experience with RHEL and network engineering, including firewall configuration.
• Familiarity with Defence network architecture is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop A&A artefacts per JCG Defence Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation Framework.
• Develop artefacts to support Digital Demand Request (DDR) assessment by Defence Digital Group (DDG).
• Liaise with external interface (USN EDT, DTCN) system owners to define EDT interfaces.
• Conduct compliance assessment against the Australian Information Security Manual (ISM) and develop technical documentation.

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.
Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Network Specialist in Canberra to design and implementation of a secure ICT system within Defence.

What You'll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities include:

• Develop Assessment and Authorisation (A&A) artefacts in accordance with the Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) Defence Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation Framework.
• Develop artefacts to support Digital Demand Request (DDR) assessment by Defence Digital Group (DDG).
• Liaise with external interface (USN EDT, DTCN) system owners to define EDT interfaces.
• Conduct compliance assessment against the Australian Information Security Manual (ISM), development of technical documentation and procedures for system use, administration, and maintenance.

What You'll Bring

• Demonstrated experience in Assessment and Authorisation (previously known as ICT Certification and Accreditation) for ICT systems within Defence.
• Expertise and experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), networking engineering (including network design and firewall configuration), cybersecurity software.
• Familiarity with Defence network architecture is highly desirable.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
