Responsibilities

• Lead and manage network security infrastructure, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs and NAC.
• Oversee identity services across AD, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 with secure governance.
• Provision, modify and deprovision user accounts and access control.
• Conduct regular security assessments and audits for compliance.
• Implement security hardening, patching, malware prevention and monitoring.
• Assist in incident investigations and data security events.
• Administer Microsoft Purview features including data classification and DLP.
• Develop security training and awareness for staff.
• Prepare documentation for network security configurations and policies.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
• Co-manage a Microsoft server and Apple device environment including JAMF and Apple School Manager.
• Collaborate with IT leadership on ICT strategy for the College.

Overnewton Anglican Community College is seeking an experienced and proactive Network Security & Systems Administrator to join our ICT team on full-time basis for a fixed term period of one year with a possibility of ongoing.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled IT professional to play a key role in securing, managing, and enhancing the College's network, systems, and digital infrastructure.

Working closely with the Director of ICT and IT Manager, you will be responsible for the administration and continuous improvement of the College's cybersecurity posture, Microsoft and Apple environments, network infrastructure, identity management systems, and disaster recovery capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Network Security and Systems Administrator is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the:

Network Security

Configure, manage and monitor firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPN services, NAC, and related security infrastructure to safeguard network infrastructure.

Manage the College's identity and security services, continuing to implement the strategy for a single passwordless user identity and a secure, well-governed environment across AD, Entra ID and Microsoft 365.

Maintain effective processes for provisioning, modifying and deprovisioning user accounts and access.

Stay up to date with the latest security threats, trends, and technologies to continuously enhance the organisation's security posture.

Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with security standards and regulations.

Apply security hardening baselines, patching schedules, malware and intrusion prevention, and proactive monitoring across servers, networks and endpoints.

Support the investigation and resolution of data security incidents

Support the implementation and ongoing administration of Microsoft Purview capabilities, including data classification, sensitivity labels, data loss prevention and information governance controls.

Participate in the development of security training and awareness programs for employees to promote a culture of security awareness.

Provide guidance and support to IT staff on security best practices and protocols.

Prepare and maintain documentation related to network security configurations, policies, and procedures.

Assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Systems Administration

Co-manage a complex Microsoft server and Apple device environment and secure data infrastructure, including Microsoft Server, Exchange, SQL, M365, Azure, Intune, JAMF and Apple School Manager.

Maintain and administer the VMware vSphere and Hyper-v on-premises environments, and Azure local workloads, including capacity, performance and lifecycle management.

Support and maintain the college's wired and wireless network, including Juniper Mist Wi-Fi, switching and NAC.

Implement, monitor and maintain backup and disaster recovery processes to support data integrity and business continuity.

Develop and maintain systems documentation continually, identifying opportunities to hand over support functions to the Helpdesk team to improve first contact resolution.

Plan and maintain a cycle of process and service improvement by analysing systems, requests, trends, and helpdesk data, putting forward recommendations to enhance the environment and processes.

Co-manage advanced hardware support and troubleshooting of servers and network equipment.

Work in cooperation with the IT Manager and Director of ICT in designing and implementing the strategic direction for ICT at the College.

Perform other duties directed by the Principal, commensurate with the position description.

Key Selection Criteria

Network Security Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in configuring, managing, and monitoring various network security devices including firewalls, NAC, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, etc., to ensure the protection of network infrastructure.

Security Awareness and Adaptability: Proven ability to stay informed about the latest security threats, trends, and technologies, and apply this knowledge to continuously enhance the organisation's security posture. Ability to provide effective guidance and support to IT staff on security best practices and protocols, fostering a culture of security awareness and compliance throughout the organisation.

Audit and Compliance Management: Experience conducting regular security assessments and audits, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations, and maintaining thorough documentation of network security configurations, policies, and procedures.

Incident Response and Disaster Recovery: Familiarity with the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring the organisation's ability to recover from security incidents and maintain operational resilience.

Data Governance: Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining data governance principles and information governance technologies.

Systems Administration Proficiency: Experience in managing or co-managing complex Microsoft server and Apple device environments, along with expertise in supporting and maintaining wired and wireless network infrastructure.

Demonstrated experience in the management and administration of Apple and Microsoft environments will be highly regarded.

Completion of relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or related discipline.

At least 3 years’ experience in a senior systems administration/infrastructure role.

A sound knowledge of, or experience in an education setting will be highly regarded.

A current Working With Children Check (employee), or willingness to acquire one, is essential.
