Western Downs Regional Council in Australia is seeking a hands-on Utilities Operator to assist the Utilities Senior Network Operator. You will help provide safe water, wastewater and gas services, meet statutory requirements for performance, safety and environmental management, and uphold high customer service standards.

Responsibilities include monitoring and operating network systems, pump stations and water distribution, servicing small plant, and using smart devices for data entry.

About the role

Operating from within the Utilities Department, this role will assist the Utilities Senior Network Operator to provide a range of services that support the provision of safe water, wastewater and gas services across the Western Downs. This includes meeting statutory requirements for performance, safety and environmental management and ensuring customer service standards are achieved to a high standard. This role requires skills and knowledge necessary to monitor, operate and maintain water, wastewater and gas network operations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate network systems, pump stations and water distribution systems

• Knowledge of water and wastewater networks with experience in labouring and using plant and equipment

• Servicing, lubricating, cleaning, and refuelling small plant and performing minor adjustments and repairs

• Assist the Utilities Senior Network Operator to provide services that support safe water, wastewater and gas services

• Meet statutory requirements for performance, safety and environmental management

• Ensure customer service standards are achieved to a high standard

About you

• Proven/Demonstrated experience in monitoring and operating network systems, pump stations and water distribution systems

• Knowledge of water and wastewater networks with experience in labouring and using plant and equipment

• Proven initiative, a good work ethic and demonstrated problem-solving skills to address issues

• Effective interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and teamwork skills including the ability to follow directions and standard operating procedures and work autonomously

• Servicing, lubricating, cleaning, and refuelling small plant and performing minor adjustments and repairs

• Familiarity with modern technology and proficient in using smart devices to enter data for reporting
