Job summary

Aurec Group in Sydney is seeking a Network Engineer for a contract role to design, deploy and support large-scale IP/MPLS backbone networks using Cisco ASR9000 IOS-XR. This hybrid position requires 3 days onsite in Australia.

The role focuses on BGP, IS-IS, MPLS L3VPN, IPv6 and Segment Routing, troubleshooting production issues, and collaborating with multi-vendor teams. Prior experience with Cisco SP platforms and carrier environments is essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on design, deployment and support of carrier-grade IP/MPLS networks.
• Experience with Cisco ASR9000/IOS-XR in large-scale environments.
• Strong knowledge of BGP, IS-IS, IPv6 and Segment Routing.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and support carrier-grade IP/MPLS backbone networks using Cisco ASR9000 (IOS-XR).
• Deliver backbone upgrades, migrations and network expansion across core, aggregation and edge layers.
• Implement and optimise routing technologies including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS L3VPN, IPv6, and Segment Routing.
• Troubleshoot complex production network issues and lead incident resolution across multi-vendor environments.
• Support deployment of new services, capacity upgrades and modernization initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and vendor teams to ensure scalable, resilient network architecture.

NETWORK ENGINEER - Service Provider (ASR9K, IPv6, Segment Routing)

Join a globally recognised engineering team delivering and evolving large-scale Service Provider IP/MPLS networks across national and international backbone infrastructure.

This role is ideal for engineers with hands‑on experience designing, deploying, and supporting carrier‑grade networks using Cisco Service Provider platforms.

It's a contract role that will initially run for 12 months which is likely to be extended for years to come. Candidates must have full working rights in Australia.

What you'll do

• Design, deploy and support carrier‑grade IP/MPLS backbone networks using Cisco ASR9000 (IOS-XR) platforms
• Deliver backbone upgrades, migrations, and network expansion programs across core, aggregation, and edge layers
• Implement and optimise routing technologies including BGP, IS‑IS, MPLS L3VPN, IPv6, and Segment Routing
• Troubleshoot complex production network issues and lead incident resolution across multi‑vendor environments

What you bring

• Experience working with Cisco Service Provider platforms, particularly ASR9K and IOS‑XR
• Strong hands‑on experience with MPLS, BGP, IS‑IS, IPv6, and Segment Routing in carrier or large‑scale environments
• Proven experience supporting or deploying IP/MPLS backbone or core networks
• Ability to troubleshoot routing, transport, and backbone infrastructure issues in production environments
• Experience working in telecom, Service Provider, or large‑scale managed network environments

Nice to have

• Experience with Juniper MX, Nokia SR, or multi‑vendor backbone environments
• Exposure to EVPN, traffic engineering, or automation tools (Python, Ansible)
• CCNP Service Provider, CCIE, or equivalent experience
