Jobtailor is seeking a seasoned Network Engineer in Melbourne to troubleshoot BAU incidents across switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, VPNs and IPsec. You will analyse complex network issues, plan and implement upgrades, manage BGP configurations and maintain thorough documentation.

You will collaborate with SMB clients, communicate risks and recommendations clearly, and take ownership of network improvements while ensuring security and reliability across client environments.

Job description

Troubleshoot and resolve BAU network incidents and escalations across switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, VPNs and application-level firewall controls.
Analyse complex network issues and restore services within agreed service levels, minimising client impact and repeat incidents.
Monitor network performance and health, identifying opportunities for patching, optimisation, capacity upgrades and improved reliability.
Plan, implement and support network changes and upgrades, including firewall policies, routing, wireless deployments and infrastructure enhancements.
Manage BGP routing configurations and troubleshoot peering issues.
Monitor and maintain IPsec site-to-site VPNs, resolving encryption, authentication, connectivity and tunnel stability issues.
Ensure wireless networks provide appropriate coverage, performance and security, addressing interference, roaming and configuration issues.
Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, configuration standards, operational procedures and change records.
Collaborate with internal teams and SMB clients to deliver secure, scalable and practical network solutions.
Communicate technical issues, risks and recommendations clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
Identify and implement proactive improvements across client network environments.

Requirements

Experience working as a Network Engineer across switching, routing, firewalls, wireless and VPN technologies.
Strong knowledge of Cisco routers, Aruba switches, Fortinet, Juniper and Palo Alto firewalls.
Strong understanding of enterprise switching technologies including VLANs, Spanning Tree, HSRP/VRRP and LAG.
Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, routing protocols and IPsec site-to-site VPNs.
Experience supporting Small and Medium Business clients, balancing technical outcomes with practical and commercially aware solutions.
Experience planning and delivering network changes, upgrades and incident responses with strong documentation and risk management.
Understanding of voice and SIP call flow troubleshooting; Microsoft Teams, SBC and AudioCodes experience highly regarded.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work through complex network issues independently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, explaining technical information clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
Proactive and accountable approach, willingness to learn, develop technical knowledge and take ownership of assigned work.
Valid Vulnerable People / Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Police Check required.
