Job summary

Talent in Canberra seeks an experienced Network Architect to provide strategic and technical leadership across a complex enterprise network environment. You will govern enterprise architecture across on‑prem, cloud-connected and hybrid environments with hands-on technical leadership.

You will translate requirements into secure, scalable network solutions, develop architecture patterns and roadmaps, and guide major modernization initiatives with governance across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing enterprise network architectures in large ICT environments.
• Strong expertise in enterprise security architectures, especially Fortinet.
• Ability to operate in complex, multi-vendor networks and translate requirements into designs.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced Network Architect to provide strategic and technical leadership across a complex enterprise network environment.

Working within an established Network Operations team, you will define, govern and evolve enterprise network architecture across on-premises, cloud-connected and hybrid environments. The role combines strategic architecture with hands-on technical leadership, translating business, security and operational requirements into secure, scalable and resilient network solutions.

You will work across a broad multi-vendor technology environment, developing architecture patterns, standards and roadmaps while providing technical governance and assurance across major projects, network modernisation initiatives and complex technical changes.

Key Duties

• Develop and maintain enterprise network architecture, standards, patterns and technology roadmaps.
• Translate business, security and operational requirements into network capabilities and solution designs.
• Lead the design and implementation of strategic network initiatives and complex technical changes.
• Produce high-level and detailed network designs and implementation guidance.
• Act as technical lead across complex network projects and technology refresh activities.
• Provide architecture assurance and technical governance across concurrent projects and operational initiatives.
• Define and implement network security architectures aligned with the ISM, PSPF and Essential Eight.
• Improve network resilience, security, monitoring, automation and operational supportability.
• Guide technology lifecycle management, capacity planning and network modernisation activities.
• Maintain hands-on technical engagement across enterprise network technologies.
• Engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to develop and communicate network solutions.

Skills and Experience Required

• Demonstrated experience developing enterprise network architectures and translating architecture into implemented outcomes within large, complex ICT environments.
• High-level expertise designing and implementing enterprise network security architectures, with significant experience across Fortinet technologies and services.
• Strong experience operating within complex, multi-vendor network environments.
• Demonstrated expertise across enterprise routing and switching, network security, load balancing, WAN and cloud-connected environments.
• Experience designing solutions across LAN, MAN and WAN environments, network management, monitoring and observability technologies.
• Strong understanding and practical application of Australian Government security frameworks, including the ISM, PSPF and Essential Eight.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership, architecture governance and design assurance across multiple concurrent initiatives.
• Highly developed stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to produce high-quality architecture, solution design and technical artefacts.

Experience in the following areas will be highly regarded

• Microsoft Azure networking and hybrid connectivity.
• Network automation, Infrastructure as Code and orchestration technologies, including Ansible.
• Zero Trust architectures, network segmentation and contemporary security design patterns.
• Architecture governance forums, design authorities and technology standards development.
• Relevant certifications such as Fortinet NSE/FCP, CCDE, CCNP/CCIE, F5-CA, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
• Previous experience within Commonwealth Government or similarly regulated environments.
