Job summary

VicRoads is seeking a talented Software Engineer to design, build and support cloud-native .NET applications and serverless services on AWS. You will work in an Agile delivery team, applying IaC, CI/CD practices, and secure, scalable backend workflows.

You’ll collaborate with tech leads, architects and QA to ensure reliable delivery, high-quality code, and operational excellence across staging and production environments.

Together, you'll help shape the future of our digital platforms through modern cloud technologies, automation and best-practice software engineering.About the OpportunityThe .NET Developer is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and supporting modern, cloud-native .NET applications and serverless services across VicRoads' digital platforms and delivery projects.Working within an Agile delivery team, this role applies modern engineering standards, Infrastructure as Code(IaC), and automated CI/CD practices to build scalable, resilient, and secure APIs and backend workflows hosted on AWS. The .NET Developer collaborates closely with Tech Leads, architects, testers, and product owners to ensure reliable delivery, maintain application documentation, and drive operational excellence.Software Development & API Engineering: Design, build, test, and maintain robust, high-performance backend services and serverless APIs using C# and .NET 8+, while implementing and integrating RESTful APIs through Amazon API Gateway and GraphQL services via AWS AppSync, ensuring alignment with architectural best practices and scalable, reliable solution delivery.Delivery & Agile Collaboration: Actively participate in Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, estimation sessions, daily stand-ups, showcases, and retrospectives, while collaborating closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Quality Assurance teams to define acceptance criteria, support testing activities, and ensure successful validation of delivered solutions.Quality, Security & Support: Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests, perform static code analysis, and participate in peer code reviews to ensure high standards of code quality, reliability, and maintainability, while proactively monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving incidents across staging and production environments. Adhere to least-privilege IAM principles and data protection standards, ensuring secure access management and that sensitive or personally identifiable information (PII) is never captured in application logs.Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date technical documentation, architecture artefacts, and operational runbooks to support knowledge sharing, system support, and ongoing platform sustainability, while proactively identifying and recommending improvements to processes, tools, and development frameworks to enhance team efficiency, delivery quality, and overall velocity.About YouYou are a skilled Software Engineer with experience building modern, cloud-native applications using C# and .NET in AWS environments. You have a strong background developing scalable backend services, serverless APIs and distributed cloud solutions using technologies such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, AppSync and Step Functions.You bring hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, using tools such as CloudFormation, SAM and AWS CDK, and are comfortable managing the full application lifecycle from development through to deployment. You have experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and are passionate about automation, code quality and continuous improvement.You have a solid understanding of cloud security best practices, including IAM, secret management and protecting sensitive data, and can effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues across complex cloud environments.
