Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Manufacturing QC Inspector - Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) to support train bogie and carbody manufacturing operations on QTMP in Queensland, Australia. This hands‑on, high‑impact role will rely on your NDT expertise to ensure safety, quality and reliability across a 65‑train project for Cross River Rail.

You will conduct magnetic particle, ultrasonic, penetrant and visual inspections, driving KPIs while collaborating with internal teams and suppliers.

Qualifications

• ISO 9712 Level 2 certification in Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Penetrant and Visual Weld Inspection.
• Several years' experience in NDT, preferably within rail or heavy manufacturing.
• Strong capability to interpret and apply welding, fabrication and manufacturing standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Non‑Destructive Testing and inspection activities across train manufacturing operations.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety and regulatory standards, aligned with Downer's Zero Harm commitment.
• Achieve and maintain NDT performance KPIs in support of production delivery milestones.
• Identify, report and elevate quality issues that may impact schedule or safety.
• Promote a strong quality culture and continuous improvement mindset.
• Collaborate effectively with internal teams, suppliers and project stakeholders.
• Read, interpret and apply weld, fabrication and manufacturing standards.
• Support cost efficiency by identifying improvement and waste‑reduction opportunities.
• Lead by example, fostering teamwork, accountability and high performance.
