Job summary

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network is seeking a Program Manager for NCIRS to lead management of contracted funding and ensure delivery of outputs meets contractual obligations. You will collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to optimise program operations and reporting.

Based at Westmead, the role requires advanced health-sector qualifications and strong communication, planning and governance capabilities to support strategic priorities and client outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

The National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NCIRS) is the leading research organisation in Australia that provides objective expert advice on all aspects of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), vaccines, and other issues related to immunisation, to inform policy and planning for immunisation services in Australia and to support the control of VPDs across the whole life-course. NCIRS also has a growing Global Health program that works to support countries, particularly those in the Asia‑Pacific region, on their immunisation system strengthening efforts. This work is funded through agreements with the Australian and New South Wales governments, including the Australian Centre for Disease Control, as well as other funding agencies.

The Program Manager, Program Management is responsible for the operational and leadership and management of the awarded contract of funding for NCIRS. The role is accountable for supporting the timely delivery of high-quality outputs, monitoring performance against contractual obligations, and ensuring compliance with funding agreements with the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Australian Centre for Disease Control, the NSW Ministry of Health or other NCIRS work contracts.

Working in a complex research and public health environment, the position applies extensive knowledge of health research, and sound knowledge translation and program operations to support effective planning, resource coordination and service delivery across the two streams. The role works collaboratively with stream leads, researchers and internal and external stakeholders to optimise operational performance, strengthen partnerships and ensure programs are responsive to organisational priorities, contractual commitments and emerging public health needs.

The Program Manager, Program Management contribute to organisational planning and continuous improvement by supporting effective governance, operational risk management and performance monitoring across the assigned streams. The role exercises independent judgement in resolving operational issues, coordinating competing priorities and implementing improvements that enhance service delivery and organisational effectiveness.

The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the delivery of high-quality research and operational support activities within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN), ensuring excellence in research administration, program coordination and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications and substantial management experience within health, public sector, research and/or academic environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex programs of work, managing multiple concurrent projects, priorities and deliverables within a dynamic environment.
• Highly developed analytical, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate information, identify priorities and support evidence-based decision-making
• Proven ability to build, influence and maintain productive relationships with senior health professionals, academics, government representatives and other key stakeholders.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop high-quality reports, presentations and briefings, and communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
• Sound understanding of research and policy environments, including knowledge translation, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and the management of scientific and program information systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using project management, information management and bibliographic database systems to support program delivery and reporting.
• Demonstrate a culture of quality and patient safety in clinical research.
