Job summary

UP Auto Care is looking for a qualified Motor Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, service and repair vehicles at customer locations and in workshop facilities in Victoria. You will work independently to complete repairs to high professional standards, using diagnostic scanners and modern tools.

Responsibilities include engine and transmission work, preventative maintenance, auto-electrical repairs and clear communication with customers about required repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications

• A relevant automotive mechanical qualification (Certificate III or equivalent).
• 12 months or more practical experience as a Motor Mechanic.
• Strong diagnostic and repair abilities with modern scanners and workshop equipment.
• Ability to interpret manufacturer specifications and diagnostic reports.
• Good customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles and use diagnostic equipment to detect faults.
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Dismantle and repair engine and transmission components.
• Reassemble and test repaired systems to spec.
• Diagnose auto-electrical faults and related systems.
• Provide mobile servicing at customer locations and determine when workshop facilities are needed.
• Conduct road tests and final inspections for safety.

The successful candidate will inspect, diagnose, service and repair motor vehicles at customer locations and workshop facilities. The role requires strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, the ability to work independently and a commitment to completing repairs safely and to a high professional standard.**Key duties and responsibilities**1. Inspect vehicles and use diagnostic equipment to detect faults in engines, transmissions, braking, steering, suspension, cooling, fuel and related vehicle systems.2. Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including engine tune-ups, oil and filter changes, fluid checks and battery testing, in accordance with manufacturer specifications.3. Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other vehicle components, and repair or replace worn, damaged or defective parts.4. Reassemble, test and adjust repaired mechanical systems and components to ensure reliable performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.5. Diagnose and repair related auto-electrical faults involving batteries, alternators, starter motors, wiring, lighting and electronic vehicle systems.6. Provide mobile inspections, servicing and repairs at customer locations and determine when work requires workshop facilities or specialized equipment.7. Conduct road tests and final inspections to confirm the effectiveness of repairs and ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy.8. Identify potential mechanical issues and clearly explain required repairs and preventative maintenance recommendations to customers.9. Maintain accurate records of inspections, diagnoses, parts used and work completed, while ensuring tools, equipment and work areas are kept safe and organized.10. Comply with all applicable workplace health and safety, environmental and waste-disposal requirements.**Skills and experience**1. A relevant automotive mechanical qualification, such as a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or an equivalent qualification.2. 12 months or more relevant practical experience as a Motor Mechanic.3. Strong knowledge of engines, transmissions, braking, steering, suspension, cooling and fuel systems.4. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and rectify complex mechanical faults using modern diagnostic scanners, specialized tools and workshop equipment.5. Ability to interpret manufacturer specifications, technical manuals and diagnostic reports.6. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.7. Ability to work independently while providing mobile services at different customer locations.8. Good customer service and communication skills.9. Qualifications, training or practical experience in automotive electrical systems will be regarded.10.
