Job summary

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Parkville is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician Grade 1 – Molecular Pathology to support our expanding molecular diagnostic service. You will work in the Preanalytics team, performing nucleic acid extractions and contributing to high-quality molecular testing that underpins patient care at Peter MacCallum.

Role includes specimen handling, data entry, equipment upkeep and collaboration with the lab team to drive continuous improvement and accuracy in results

Qualifications

• Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent required.
• Experience in diagnostic molecular pathology preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with molecular assays (PCR, sequencing, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Accession, triage and prepare specimens for molecular testing.
• Perform DNA/RNA extraction from diverse specimen types.
• Ensure accurate sample identification and data entry (LIS/LIMS).
• Maintain equipment and spaces per quality and safety standards.
• Support workflow improvement with the team.
