Job summary

The Tasmanian Government, via the Department of Health in the South region, seeks a Medical Scientist in Charge – Molecular Medicine to lead a pivotal molecular diagnostics laboratory at Royal Hobart Hospital. You will manage staff, plan daily operations, and ensure delivery of high-quality diagnostic services across regional and national levels.

Ideal candidates hold a medical laboratory science qualification with extensive molecular diagnostics experience and eligible professional body

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent.
• Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body.
• Approximately ten years of specialised experience in molecular diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level professional and operational support to the Director, Pathology RHH, and plan, coordinate and oversee day-to-day scientific and technical operations of the Molecular Medicine Department.
• Provide professional leadership to scientific and technical staff, including supervision, mentoring, workload coordination, roster management, performance review and competency assessment.
• Lead and contribute to the delivery of complex and critical molecular diagnostic services within a tertiary referral setting, including regional and national levels.
