Job summary

Tasmania Government's Molecular Medicine laboratory in Royal Hobart Hospital seeks a Medical Scientist in Charge to oversee daily operations, provide professional leadership, and coordinate complex diagnostic services across regional and national levels.

The role requires extensive molecular diagnostics expertise, strong management skills, and the ability to plan and direct staff workloads in a public health setting in Tasmania.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent.
• Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as AMCLS, AAACLBM, ASM, HGA or the AS Cytology.
• Desirable: Membership/Fellowship with a recognised professional body and 10 years of specialised experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to scientific and technical staff, including supervision, mentoring, workload coordination, roster management and performance reviews.
• Lead delivery of complex molecular diagnostic services within a tertiary referral setting, including regional and national labs.
• Coordinate day-to-day scientific and technical operations of the Molecular Medicine Department.
