Job summary

A&O Shearman is seeking a Business Development Manager to join the Marketing team in our Perth office on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You will work alongside our US-based Mining & Metals BD Manager to drive client development, sector strategy execution, and campaigns, while maintaining CRM data and pursuing best practice across BD systems. Strong collaboration with regional teams and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven business development experience within a professional services environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and sector interest in Mining & Metals.
• Excellent project and stakeholder management, plus communication.
• Strong writing, presentation and relationship-building capabilities.
• Experience using CRM and business development systems, ideally Dynamics.
• Highly organised with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Proactive, collaborative and client-focused, with senior stakeholder exposure.
• Degree qualified or equivalent experience, with travel flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Strategic planning and execution to deliver sector strategy and business plans.
• Coordinate sector initiatives, meetings and client programmes.
• Monitor market developments to identify growth opportunities.
• Support client planning and relationship development across priority accounts.
• Coordinate client meetings, events and follow-ups.
• Maintain high-quality client intelligence and CRM data.
• Use approved AI and BD technology tools to improve efficiency.
• Develop AI capabilities in line with firm requirements.
• Support strategic pitches, proposals and credentials.
• Maintain pipeline data and support pursuit best practice.
• Deliver sector events, conferences and profile-raising initiatives.
• Coordinate thought leadership and marketing campaigns.
• Help strengthen sector global market profile.
• Collaborate across regions and practices to meet objectives.
• Promote firm systems and continuous improvement.
• Share knowledge and best practice across the team.
• Support prioritisation and delivery across competing demands.
