Job summary

Core Talent is recruiting for a leadership role spanning health, safety and training within a major Bowen Basin coal operation. You will guide the HST function, ensuring strong governance of the Safety and Health Management System, compliance with mining legislation, and robust training and risk management across the site.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will influence site safety culture through collaboration with managers, supervisors and frontline staff, combining strategic oversight

Qualifications

• Experience leading Health, Safety & Training management in a mining environment.
• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
• Experience managing safety systems, training compliance, audits and risk management.
• Ability to lead incident investigations and facilitate formal risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the site's Health, Safety & Training team.
• Maintain and improve the Safety and Health Management System.
• Ensure compliance with Queensland coal mining legislation, standards and site procedures.
• Facilitate internal and external audits, inspections and compliance reviews.

The Company

An established Australian coal mining business with multiple operations across Queensland is looking to appoint a Health, Safety & Training Superintendent at one of its established mining operations.

With a stable workforce, experienced site leadership team, and continued investment across its Queensland operations, the business offers an excellent opportunity to take ownership of critical safety and training systems while contributing to the ongoing performance of the site.

The Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll be a key member of the Site Leadership Team, responsible for overseeing health, safety, training, and compliance across the operation.

You’ll lead the site's HST function, maintaining and improving the Safety and Health Management System, managing legislative compliance, and ensuring effective training, risk management, occupational hygiene, and emergency management systems are in place.

This is a role that combines strategic leadership with hands‑on operational involvement. You’ll work closely with department managers, supervisors, and frontline employees to drive continuous improvement and maintain a strong safety culture.

The business is open to experienced HST Superintendents or capable Senior HST Advisors looking to take the next step in their careers.

Benefits

• $180,000 base salary + Super
• Additional $18,000 site allowance
• 20% STIP bonus
• 9-day fortnight – 5:2 / 4:3 roster

• Direct reporting line to the General Manager
