Job summary

Iluka Resources is seeking a Mining Engineer for Balranald, NSW, to provide technical expertise in mining solutions and ensure the efficient delivery of operation objectives. The role involves coordinating consolidated plans for extraction, backfill, tailings and rehabilitation, and communicating these to stakeholders.

The position requires a tertiary degree in mining or related discipline, and experience with mine planning software.

  • Manage a rolling schedule to ensure production outcomes are achieved.
  • Develop plans for topsoil and overburden stripping, tailings injection and management and rehabilitation.

About the role

Owing to its relative depth (approximately 60 metres below surface), Iluka has spent decades developing a novel, remotely operated, underground mining (UGM) technology. This mining method is now in operation at the Balranald Mine. This mining method is truly innovative! Iluka’s UGM technology is akin to keyhole surgery for the mining of critical minerals. It utilises directional drills to access to ore bodies previously thought uneconomic, with marked reductions in both environmental disturbance and carbon intensity relative to traditional mining techniques. The Mining Engineer will provide technical expertise on practical mining solutions to ensure the ongoing efficient delivery of the Balranald mining operation objectives. This position is responsible for communicating, maintaining, and integrating the consolidated mining extraction, backfill, tailings, and rehabilitation plans for the mine site.

Key responsibilities
  • Input into daily production and development activities to ensure management of the short- and medium-term mine plan.
  • Daily and weekly data recording and entry will provide information and direction on mine plans, backfill progress, tailings planning, rehabilitation, and material movements.
  • Resilience and the ability to perform under pressure will be key in this dynamic environment.
