Job summary

Trideca is establishing its Canberra-based program to design and govern cloud native, microservices and AI-enabled platforms for government and enterprise clients. You will lead architecture, security, and the release of scalable, resilient service delivery across diverse environments.

You will drive modern engineering practices, including AI-enabled lifecycle management, DevSecOps, observability and platform engineering standards, while guiding multi-disciplinary teams to maturity and success.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing cloud native, microservices and event driven architectures in complex enterprise environments.
• Expertise in AI engineering and AI-enabled solution delivery, including deployment and operation of enterprise AI capabilities.
• Strong software and platform engineering capability across modern development frameworks, DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, and security by design.

The role

You will provide technical leadership and architectural authority for the design, governance and evolution of cloud native, microservices based and AI enabled platforms, keeping them aligned to enterprise architecture, security and broader business transformation objectives.

You will lead the establishment of modern engineering and AI delivery practices, including an AI enabled software development lifecycle, DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, automated testing and platform engineering standards that support secure, scalable and reliable service delivery. You will drive technology modernisation and platform adoption. That means microservices enhancement, containerisation, integration of enterprise systems and the implementation of reusable patterns that improve scalability, maintainability and operational resilience.

You will also build organisational capability and technical maturity through knowledge transfer, engineering governance and the leadership of multidisciplinary teams. Capability transfer is not an afterthought on this program. It is part of the mandate, and the department expects it to happen throughout delivery rather than at the end of it.

Most technical leadership roles in government are about keeping what already exists alive. This one is not. A federal department is standing up its first enterprise microservices and event driven architecture foundations, and embedding AI enabled engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle at the same time. You would be the person setting the technical direction for both.

What we are looking for

Extensive experience designing, implementing and governing cloud native, microservices and event driven architectures inside complex enterprise environments, delivering scalable, resilient and secure business critical platforms. Demonstrated expertise in AI engineering and AI enabled solution delivery, covering the development, deployment and operationalisation of enterprise AI capabilities, semantic search, machine learning solutions and responsible AI practices. Strong software engineering and platform engineering capability across modern development frameworks, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security by design and operational excellence.

A track record of leading enterprise technology modernisation and transformation, providing technical direction, influencing architecture decisions and delivering measurable improvements in platform reliability, security, scalability and engineering maturity.

Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills, with real experience leading multidisciplinary teams, delivery partners and senior executives, and translating complex business requirements into practical technology outcomes.

Also valuable

Experience designing, implementing and operating container platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS or GKE, including platform automation, governance and workload management. Experience with cloud platform modernisation, Site Reliability Engineering, platform engineering, observability tooling and enterprise scale automation. Experience leading delivery in Agile environments, coaching geographically dispersed teams and lifting capability across them.

The practical detail

The primary location is Canberra, ACT. The department supports flexible and remote working where operational requirements permit, and maintains offices in every Australian capital city alongside a network of regional offices. You may be asked to collaborate with stakeholders around the country, with occasional travel to Canberra or elsewhere. The engagement is 40 hours per week. You must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance.
