Job summary

The Far West Local Health District in rural NSW is seeking a Mental Health Registered Nurse for a permanent full-time role in Buronga. You will undertake assessment, care planning and case management for patients with mental health and drug and alcohol issues.

Salary range: $81,748.17–$114,771.98 plus super; 38-hour week; professional development support and extensive rural health incentives.

  • Current Nursing registration with AHPRA.
  • Minimum two years clinical experience in mental health and/or drug and alcohol.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, both written and verbal; intermediate computer skills.

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas

About Buronga / Mildura

On the NSW side of the Murray River, Buronga is a beautiful rural town, just 10km from Mildura Victoria, many of our staff live in the booming regional hub of Mildura and travel the short 10 minutes to work. Mildura has a population of over 50,000 and growing with all the facilities of a regional city, yet is uniquely positioned in the scenic, sunraysia region, famous for its sunshine, and horticulture including grapes and oranges. While Mildura thrives as its own destination, it is also a great base for touring many iconic natural wonders and picturesque locations nearby including the world renowned Mungo National Park!

Selection Criteria
  • Current Nursing registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a minimum of two years clinical experience in mental health and/or drug and alcohol.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal, with intermediate computer skills, including use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated application of evidence based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement individualised person centred care patient care.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with a commitment to working with service partners, including carers and NGO's.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work and partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait, Islander patients and families and employees to enhance health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Evidence of participation in own professional development and commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills, and willingness to apply and share professional expertise with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the recovery model and patient centred care.
  • Current licence to drive in NSW.
