Job summary

Southern NSW Local Health District in Broken Hill invites a Dietitian to deliver quality nutrition care within Mental Health Inpatient services (MHIPU and MHPARC). You will monitor metabolic and social factors, applying recovery-oriented care to support consumer wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics; eligible for Dietitians Australia membership; ≥3 years clinical experience.
  • Knowledge of current nutrition and dietetic best practice, including mental health settings.
  • Autonomy in dietetic assessment and interventions in mental health.
  • Ability to deliver educational groups to consumers, families and carers; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality Dietetic care to Mental Health Inpatient services (MHIPU and MHPARC).
  • Monitor metabolic parameters and social factors affecting nutrition.
  • Apply recovery concepts and facilitate consumer recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and care providers to ensure suitable diet plans.

Job description

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

We really aren’t that far away - only 3 hours’ drive from Mildura, 5 hours from Adelaide or a short flight from anywhere in Australia with everything you need right at your front door!

What you'll be doing

Provide quality Dietetic care to the Mental Health Inpatient services in the Broken Hill Health Service, including the Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIPU) and Mental health Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre (MHPARC).

Monitor metabolic parameters and social factors that may impact on the client's nutritional status

Demonstrate professional knowledge of recovery concepts and principles and commitment to facilitate recovery for consumers

Maintain nutritional knowledge and skills in mental health disorders to provide nutritional care which is in line with evidence-based practice

Work with the multidisciplinary team, food services, consumers, families and carers to ensure diet plans are suitable and realistic

  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, enabling eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Australia and at least 3 years clinical experience as a dietitian.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current nutrition and dietetic best practice, including dietetics issues specific to the mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and provide dietetic assessment and interventions in a mental health setting.
  • Understanding of the principles of mental health recovery and demonstrated experience and skills in care planning and working collaboratively with consumers, families and carers.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver educational groups to consumers, families and carers.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate with colleagues, consumers, families, carers and service partners.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Class C Driver’s License and willingness to travel for work purposes.
