Job summary

Surf Life Saving NSW seeks a senior wellbeing leader to drive psychosocial risk management and member safety across NSW. You will lead psychosocial risk, peer support, and critical incident response while translating policy into practical tools for clubs and leaders.

You will oversee wellbeing initiatives, coordinate resources, and build strong relationships with clubs and emergency services. A tertiary qualification in organisational psychology complements your experience in volunteer

Job description

Are you an experienced wellbeing leader who can combine strong governance with care, compassion and practical support?

Surf Life Saving NSW is seeking a Member Wellbeing Manager for a full-time, 12-month contract to lead and continually improve our approach to member safety and wellbeing across NSW.

Reporting to the Membership Manager, you will lead psychosocial risk management, peer support, critical incident response and wellbeing initiatives. You will translate policy, legislation and organisational priorities into practical frameworks that support psychologically safe and sustainable participation.

This role leads the Wellbeing Officer and Community Resilience and Engagement Coordinator and works closely with clubs, branches, internal teams and specialist service providers.

• Lead the development and implementation of SLSNSW’s psychosocial safety policy and risk-management approach.
• Establish systems for identifying, reporting and managing psychosocial hazards and risks.
• Translate legislation and policy into practical tools, guidance and action plans for members and club leaders.
• Support the development of return-to-duties and member workers compensation frameworks.
• Oversee and continually improve the SLSNSW Peer Support Program.
• Strengthen critical incident response frameworks, referral pathways and support mechanisms.
• Oversee the Member Assistance Program and monitor the effectiveness of external providers.
• Coordinate wellbeing resources and communications for members before, during and after critical incidents.
• Build strong relationships with clubs, branches, emergency services and specialist wellbeing providers.
• Design and deliver training to build the psychosocial safety capability of club executives and leaders.
• Evaluate wellbeing initiatives and use insights to improve programs, systems and member experiences.
• Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and workload oversight to direct reports.
• Represent SLSNSW on relevant external committees, forums and working groups.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Experience developing and implementing psychosocial risk-management frameworks, policies or initiatives.
• Experience in peer support, psychological first aid or post-critical incident support.
• The ability to navigate critical incidents and wellbeing challenges safely and appropriately.
• Experience translating policy and legislation into practical operational approaches.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence volunteers and leaders.
• Experience leading continuous improvement and applying evaluation insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage sensitive conversations.
• A high level of initiative, accountability and sound judgement in complex situations.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends and travel within NSW when required.

Experience in Surf Life Saving, emergency services or another volunteer-led environment would be highly regarded. Experience managing wellbeing providers or tenders, return-to-work frameworks, frontline leader training, policy development or CRM systems would also be valuable.

A relevant tertiary qualification in organisational psychology, human resources, work health and safety, social work or a related discipline is desirable.
