Job summary

Avant Law is seeking 2–3 Senior Associate or Associate level lawyers to join the Medico‑Legal Advisory Service (MLAS) team on a full‑time or part‑time basis. Hybrid working arrangements apply, and roles can be based in any of our Australian offices.

The MLAS role requires substantial medico‑legal experience, a current Australian practising certificate, and the ability to work across a 24/7 advisory service with occasional after-hours roster and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years’ PAE with medico-legal post admission experience.
• Tertiary legal qualifications and current unsupervised practising certificate as a solicitor in Australia.
• Telephone manner and confidence handling distressed callers for 24/7 medico-legal advice.
• Demonstrated listening and problem-solving skills; empathetic approach.
• Collaborative team player with strong time management.
• Up-to-date knowledge on medico-legal topics desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-class telephone and written medico-legal advice to members.
• Support Avant Law and claims teams on medico-legal and health law matters.
• Collaborate with MLAS Head of Practice and Legal Team Managers on resources and processes.
• Develop and maintain the health law knowledge database.
• Present to members and staff; contribute to website content and articles.
